ArchivesThe CePRC supports the Africa Regional Preparatory Conference for the World Summit on the Information SocietyGhanaian President John Kufuor officially opened the Africa Regional preparatory conference for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Accra, Ghana on February 2, 2005. Approximately 1,500 delegates attended the three-day conference the theme of which was “Access – Africa’s Key to an Inclusive Society”. The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), a CePRC partner, coordinated the conference and the 5-day series of workshops preceding the event. Delegates reviewed progress achieved in implementing the Plan of Action adopted at the first phase of WSIS in Geneva, Switzerland in December, 2003. The second phase of WSIS will be held in Tunis, Tunisia in November, 2005. The CePRC supported the event by enabling the attendance of several key African policy-makers and regulators who delivered key papers during the pre-conference workshops. In addition, the CePRC shared an information kiosk with the ECA that attracted delegates and visiting dignitaries, including the Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and several African heads of state. |
